Monthly Progress Report - May, 2011

Planning and policy advocacy

  • Three rounds of meetings held during the month, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, GoR on up-scaling of Skill Training Program in the State. The meetings were organized by RMoL and were participated by Principal Secretaries of nine departments and higher officials from Corporate houses, who are the potential partners to implement this project. This project will be implemented across the State and will have the target to train around one lakh youth per year.    

Skill Development

  • Approval of 437 programmes to 159 training providers have been given for the year 2011-12, but not communicated because of discontinuation of administrative support to  RMoL skill training work by EMI.
  • RMoL would be completing 569 programmes instead of 570 communicated earlier during the financial year 2010-11. Of these, 133 skill training programmes are on-going and 436 programmes have been completed.
  • Skill Division of the RMoL organized  Orientation cum Planning Workshops on 3rd May, 2011 for the new and existing Government colleges.
  • Skill Division of the RMoL also organized  a meeting of the Deputy Directors of Training as part of the Planning process.
  • Under Mobile Skill Training Programme the training is being conducted by the identified agencies i.e. GVT (Gramin Vikas Trust), B-able (BASIX Academy for Building Life Long Employability) and BCT (Bhoruka Charitable Trust). Two batches have been completed. The request for starting the 3rd batch has been received. Groups are being formed for the 3rd batch.
  • Under Construction Academy, during the month, the training of 3rd batch was completed in all the seven academies with 190 youth getting successful trainings in two trades of plumbing and sanitation and electrical house-wiring.

Initiatives for Livelihood Promotion

  • Under the Sheep Breed Improvement Project, the remaining 24 SHGs out of the 52 SHGs have been linked with Banks. Total savings during the month was Rs. 14675/- with cumulative savings of Rs. 271924/-. During the month 9 meetings held with Gram Panchayats, 52 monthly SHG meetings held, 2 vaccination camps were organized which benefited 1650 sheep, one veterinary health camp was organized which benefited 870 sheep. For verifying the quality of new breed rams, samples of 67 rams have been submitted to the wool testing lab, Bikaner.
  • Under Fishery development project, three monthly group meetings held during the month and issues of harvesting and marketing were discussed. Harvesting in two ponds was done with an income of Rs. 18700/- for two groups. In rest of the ponds, harvesting is ongoing and will finish by 15th June deadline given by the government. During the month, a shop taken on rent for sale of fish in Garhi Block of Banswara district, was made operational.
  • Under dairy project, two new SHGs have been formed in villages named Khajur ka nala and Damdama. Out of these two groups bank account of one group has been opened. A training on record maintenance and proper accounting has  been organized at SHG level. Apart from that a three days exposure cum training programme has also been conducted to learn SHGs audit. This month7 A.I has been done, 6 PD checks have been made and out of that 4 are successful. A Mahasammelan was organized on 22nd May, 2011 with the objective of exhibiting development process of federation. Around 2300 women from 80 SHGs participated in Mahasammelan.
  • Under Kanjar Project, through the Navjeevan scheme, 10 Kanjars have been trained as Security guard under Police training school, Jhalawar. Out of the 10 candidates, seven have been placed with the Forest Department, Jhalawar with a salary of Rs. 3600/-.
  • Under the Tribal SME Project, detailed meetings were conducted with 30 SHGs of five partner NGOs and handholding support were provided to 45 entrepreneurs during this month. Further, a cluster meeting and a federation meeting by Prayatna Samiti, Bambora Prayatn Samiti, two federation meetings by Kotra Adivasi Sansthan and one federation meeting by Sangam Sansthan were also done. Under the project, capacity building training was also conducted for  70 SHGs and this training was participated by 650 participants (Males: 260 & Females: 390).The Gramnidhi Coordination committee meeting was held during this month for reviewing  the project progress and future planning of the activities
  • Under the TADD Child Migration Project, study of 4000 tribal families having cases of child migration have been completed and draft report is submitted to RMoL by ACCESS. Further to this, 60 groups have been formed in all the 4 districts. A capacity building training program was organized for project implementing team on procurement planning before the activity based intervention.

Initiatives at RMoL District Offices-

  • The District Manager, Udaipur on 11th of May 2011, participated in the brainstorming meeting organised by Access Development Services with the Scientists from Agriculture and allied Sectors. In the meeting criteria for selection of beneficiaries for agri and allied interventions were finalised.  
  • On 17th of May 2011, The District Manager participated in the Meeting of the Task Force Committee held under the Chairmanship of District Collector. On the request of District Manager and the Assistant Labour Commissioner, it was decided to merge the Task Force formed under TAD project with the already existing committee to deal with child labour.
  • The District Manager-Udaipur had meetings with the Additional Commissioner-TSP and Deputy Director-Agriculture in Tribal Area Development Department. Unit Costs for different interventions were revised on the basis of inputs received from the department. 
  • The District Manager-Udaipur made monitoring visit to Nalawa and Dharawad villages in Jhadol block in Udaipur. During the visit interactions were held with the SHG members, potential beneficiaries and community members. Identification of Households and potential beneficiaries were cross checked and inputs provided to the field team. 
  • On 24th of May, The District Manager-Udaipur made a monitoring visit to the ongoing skill training programme on Facial Therapist. Since this was the last day of the programme, certificate and tool kit distribution was also held.
  • The District Manager-Udaipur made a monitoring visit on 24st of May 2011 to the ongoing skill training programme on Plumbing and Sanitation Work in the Construction Academy being run in the Industrial Training Institute.
  • TheDistrict Manager-Udaipur also made monitoring visits to the ongoing training programmes in IndiaCan and Aide-at-Action. At both the centres programmes were found functioning smoothly and candidates were satisfied with the quality of programmes.
  • On 21st of May 2011, the District Manager made monitoring visit to TADD project area in Nagda Badi and Hatiya Dili villages in Kushalgarh Block. Households identified were cross checked and interactions were held with Investigators and Community Mobilizers. Inputs were provided to the team for carrying out value chain assessment of potential interventions in the local markets.
  • The District Manager, Baran visited to Morbania and Datav villages of Pipalkhoont block along with Mr. Jugal, Project Coordinator, ACCESS . During the visit detailed discussion was held with the Community Mobilizers Mr. Laxman, Mr. Rajendra and Mr. Gobind appointed by the implementing partner.
  • The District Manager, Baran participated in Scientist Advisory Committee meeting at KVK, Anta. The meeting was chaired by Dr. P.L. Maliwal, Director Extension Education and the attended by Dy. Director Agriculture, LBO, DDM NABARD, Employment Officer, Dy. Dir. Animal Husbandry and other govt. officials, representatives of NGOs and some progressive farmers. The meeting was convened to review the last Scientist Advisory Committee meeting and discuss the plan of 2011 – 2012.
  • The District Manager, Baran attended the quarterly District level consultative committee/ District level review committee meeting on 23rd May, 2011. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector and attended by representative of RBI, Regional Manager of lead bank and DDM NABARD. The main agenda of the meeting was to review the CD ratio, Ag loan, small scale loan, loan to the women and review of different livelihood or income generating program like SGSY, PMEGP, Dastkar credit card etc.
  • The District Manager, Dungarpur participated in the meeting on PMEGP scheme. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector and attended by district level officers from various departments to analyse the situation of PMEGP scheme in the last financial year and this year  focus will be on Mukhyamantri Swablamban Yojna along with PMEGP and Dastkar credit cards.
  • On 11th of May 2011, District Manager, Dungarpur participated in the brainstorming meeting organised by Access Development Services with the Scientists from Agriculture and allied Sectors. In the meeting criteria for selection of beneficiaries for agri and allied interventions were finalised.
  • The District Manager, Dungarpur participated in a meeting  convened by the representatives of Save the Children on 2nd May in Management  Ji Sahab Ki Kothi, Near Tehsil Chouraha, Dungarpur. The meeting was participated by the District Collector and other civil society organizations working on the issue of children. In the discussion, it was concluded that there are lot to be done in Bichhiwada block where RMoL and Save the Children can make joint efforts to understand childhood vulnerability and poverty status of the area and defining key strategies to combat it. It was agreed to share project experience and learning so far with the key stakeholders in the district and leverage their support in effectively addressing the prevailing issues of children.
  • The District Manager, Dungarpur had meetings with Project Officer, Tribal Area Development Department to discuss on the progress of TRLP in Dungarpur.  It was considered appropriate to get the list of identified HHs be approved as TRLP beneficiary by the District Collector. Consequently the PO was requested to put the matter in note-sheet and put up the file before District Collector.
